Community Biogas Plants

Installation and operation of community-level cattle-dung biogas plants under GOBARDHAN and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) across Assam.

Overview

SFARD is the technical-cum-implementing agency for community-level biogas plants of 10 and 30 cubic metres under the GOBARDHAN component of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). Plants in Chirang, Udalguri, Baksa and Bajali districts convert cattle dung into clean cooking gas and slurry manure, with house connections for nearby families.

What we do

  • 1Site selection and construction of 10 cum and 30 cum biogas plants
  • 2Mixing, feeding and slurry tank systems with balloon sheds
  • 3Household gas connections for nearby families
  • 4Operation and maintenance training for community operators
  • 5Use of digested slurry as organic manure

Outcomes so far

  • Community biogas plants commissioned in four districts of Assam
  • Clean cooking fuel replacing firewood for connected households
  • Cattle-dung waste converted into energy and organic manure
